For this project, I designed a book cover for The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe from The Chronicles of Narnia, with an Art Nouveau inspired style. I knew I wanted Aslan, the lion, to be the main focal point since he is one of the most important characters in the story.
Because the story is set in winter, I used a cool toned background with bare trees to reflect that atmosphere, and contrasted it with Aslan’s warm tones so he would stand out more. Taking inspiration from Art Nouveau where flowing organic forms are a key element, I designed his mane to feel very fluid and expressive. I also incorporated nature inspired details, like flowers wrapping around the cover, to tie into that same stylistic approach.
This was one of the first projects I ever completed as a graphic design student so it holds a special place in my heart!
