I created a social media ad campaign for Nintendo celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System. The campaign targets nostalgic millennials, and focuses on a vintage-inspired look to stand out from Nintendo’s usual minimal style. I explored retro graphics, bold layouts, and poster-inspired visuals as inspiration.
Before creating the ads, I had to figure out how to make each one visually distinct while still making them feel like part of the same set. I achieved this by using a consistent color palette, typography, and layout elements across all three ads.
The final ads use flat illustrations, diagonal compositions, and a limited palette of black, red, and off-white to create a retro feel. The campaign is designed to appeal to both younger and older audiences by combining nostalgic visual cues with a modern social media format. Younger audiences are reached through digital platforms, while the retro styling also resonates with older viewers through familiarity and nostalgia.
